FAVORITE YOUTUBERS

all timers:

jan Misali:

jan Misali is an amazing video essayist, people mostly know him for his videos on linguistics but if you're a videogame nerd like me, you probably know him for “how many super mario games are there”, but everyone's watch that video, so i come here to recommend it's criminally underwatched sequel “how many mario games are there NOW”, some people may be put off by it since there were only a few entries in the mario franchise released in between the two videos but the video is extremely entertaining, plus the ending song is a bop. i can't begin to count how many times I've watched the “Rhythm heaven iceberg megamix explained”, plus it's the video that introduced me to Patricia taxxon so it gets extra points. But i think my favorite video of his has to be “the /hj tone indicator is worse than useless”, this video COMPLETELY words my problems with the tone indicator and the usage of a lot of tone indicators in general, orange juice anon lives rent free in my head.

patricia taxxon:

I've already sung Patricia's praises about being one of my favorite music artists, but she's also one of my favorite video makers. The way she expresses thought into words it's like she took pinsirs into my brain and pulled out my thoughts. It 's great. “The autistic horror of don't hug me i'm scared (season 1)” was the first video of hers i watched and it remains one of my favorites to this day, when she first said “on the other paw” i smiled so widely because i had found my people, and she words my thoughts on why i think the “matpat-fication” (as i call it) of art analysis boggles me, it's a very well expressed video that hit close to home in a lot of places, i can't recommend enough. My favorite video of hers though has to be “On the ethics of boinking animal people”, yet again she expresses her thoughts in such a clear way, i'm not personally a furry on the sexy way that she describes but i am a puppy like patricia as well and i can relate a lot to the “autistic” sensibility of furry-nes “i was treated like a failed human my entire life and you're surprised my response was to become a dog?” great stuff. go listen to hear music too

Planet clue:

clues stuff is great, he talks about a lot of things that tickle my interest and that no one else seems to really ever talk about, and the visuals of his videos are really great i love the general vibe “exploring the world of ddr controllers” got me to buy my first softpad and launched my interest on stepmania which got me touching grass to go play DDR at my local arcades. similarly “the tale of i-dog: the ipod accessory that ruled the world” pushed me to buy my own sega idog and i love him very dearly im planning on expanding my collection one of these days the big plush idog will be mine trust!. his most recent video as of writing “understanding the “worst’ RPG protagonist - YIIK” has me jumping up and down in pure glee though, if you've had the pleasure of talking to me for at least ten minutes you know i will yap about how everyone misunderstands YIIK and clue just directly addresses it face on, it's a short and sweet video but if you're unsure about yiik or you've been poisoned by the video essay mind virus i recommend you give it a shot, alex yiik would buy raycon (not a good thing)

hazel:

Hazel from anime!, if you're a little nerd like me you've probably seen her videos floating around, she talks about anime a lot, most specifically the 1990s-2000s era of anime, what my little chud soul would call the golden age. my first array into her work was “Playstation lain and the weird world of interactive cd-roms” as i stumbled onto it on laingame.net like many of us lainheads have done, and it's a breath of fresh air on the sea of “lain explained” videos as she talks about the game in a very nuanced way that doesn't give you all the answers and makes you wanna go into the game yourself, plus she talks about less known cd rom games that touch on similar topics as lain psx. i've featured “a normal creepypasta retrospective” before on my homepage as i was fairly late to the party, not watching when it came out a i felt i was in too much of a vulnerable state to get spooked around, which in retrospect was kind of a dumb assumption to make, and i'm saying this as someone who watched this fully in the dark and is an EXPERT at scaring herself, it was a lovely watch that let me mind blown at the end. “My favorite places in pokemon” is a darling little comfort video, something to put on when i'm feeling nostalgic and want something cozy to put on in the background as i'm drawing or coding

Jenny Nicholson:

jenny oh jenny what hasnt been said about you already, best video essayist to throw in the background and listen to her yap while i do anything ever, everyone and their mom and their mom's mom has watched "The Spectacular Failure of the Star Wars Hotel" because its a great video, duh, and everyone and their mom and their mom's mom and their mom's mom's mom has watched "Evermore: The Theme Park That Wasn't", because its still an amazing video, so i come to reccoment two pony centric videos of hers, "The last bronycon: a fandom autopsy, and "The applejack problem", two videos that have fueled my inner pony autism to the maximum capacity

Defunctland

and what else hasnt been said about defunctland?, his ventures in documentation about old theme park and tv history are widely known and for good reason, the work he puts into his research is top notch work and the deadpan way he delivers his comedy along with facts is extremely funny, obviously getting it out of the way, "Disney's FastPass: A complicated history" is the best one what else is new, but in my opinion the entire DefunctTV: jim henson videos are a must watch for everyone and anyone

FAVORITE ARTISTS:

all timers:

Papurikagakusyu:

my one and only supplier of old man yaoi, i cannot take the title of #1 hankuchi shipper because of paprika (and 310, probably) but am i so glad to give them the title. I sniff this guy's media tab like it's crack cocaine. They are the sole reason I still have a Xhitter account even though I despise it with my whole soul. I am Paprika's biggest stalker. I just keep coming back for another hit. Apart from all the yaoi I'm swimming in, they've also made probably my favorite all time piece of fanart of my wifey + some of my general fav pieces of pokemon fanart. They have the same kind of brain rot I do and they deserve more praise. I genuinely start shaking like a bug when I see some of their jaw dropping art and it only has like 100 likes.

PUPN1K 🔞 (seriouslyt this is a hentai artist (with feelings!)):

My other reason to continue to have a Xhitter, Bran has sat comfortably in my top spot of artists i enjoy for ever since i first discovered her (around the akemi retrospring ask era?), not only for their adorable lasso tool lineless style art and great characters, but also because the kind of art she makes and the kinds of stories she tells hit me hard in the GUT, it's great. i think my favorite piece of art of hers is a comic where akemi has a ptsd attack during sex, that hit hard, but its not currently on any of her public accounts currently so I don't wanna breach any boundaries so in the meantime, her comic on suicide, and most recently, her comic about body dysmorphia and self hatred as a trans woman are two great hard hitters as well, akemi you will always be famous
